About The Project

CCS has a long-standing relationship with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), the nation’s second-largest public transportation system which serves 1.6 million riders daily. Our work has encompassed a wide variety of product types, and projects, including:

95th Street Terminal Expansion

CCS was in charge of the preparation of independent cost estimates for the 95th Terminal expansion along the CTA’s Red Line Dan Ryan Branch. The 95th Street station serves as both a train terminal and an integrated bus terminal and is one of the CTA’s busiest, with 24-hour Red Line service.

Blue Line Rehabilitation Program

The Blue Line Rehabilitation Program involved the reconstruction of 4.5 miles of elevated track and 1.5 miles of at-grade ballasted track, and the construction of new stations, support structures, and a storage and maintenance yard. Our work included oversight of structural replacements including new caissons, caisson caps, columns, pier caps, structural steel, track work, traction power, signals, and communications.

Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project

The $530 Million Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project involved major renovations and structural upgrades to all 18 stations along the CTA Brown Line. Originally 30%-40% over budget, the CTA enlisted CCS to review bids and review various cost reduction options to bring the project back on budget and facilitate re-bids.

Green Line - Cermak Station

We led the construction of a 28,322 SF new station with house facilities located at grade level and the center platform at track level. The project involved the creation of an 8-car platform, a canopy that covers up to 6 cars, power distribution, lighting, communications systems, wayfinding signage, and revenue collection equipment.

Green Line – Ashland & Lake Street Station

CCS was involved in the renovation of the Ashland & Lake Street Ticket Station. The restoration of the historic CTA station included the maintenance of existing platforms and the construction of new platforms, ADA compliance, fare collection, lighting, electrical, mechanical, and communications equipment, as well as pedestrian walkways and signage.

Green Line – 43rd and 47th Street Stations

CCS was involved in the re-design and renovation of the 43rd and 47th Street elevated stations. The scope of work included new communication and electric rooms, new structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, architectural finishes, ADA modifications, the rehabilitation of existing stairs and stair canopies, new fare collection equipment, entry gates and support spaces, passenger and employee support spaces, and pedestrian walkways.

Red Line, Dan Ryan Track Renewal Project

This project encompassed the replacement of rails, ties, ballast, and drainage improvements. The purpose of this project was to bring the Dan Ryan Branch into a state of good repair to minimize slow zones, improve service for CTA customers, and reduce operating costs.

Red and Purple Line Modernization Project, Phase 1

Phase One of the Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) project involves the corridor just north of Belmont Station (Clark Junction) to Linden Station.  The goal of the RPM is to expand capacity to meet growing ridership demand, reduce travel times, better utilize existing transit infrastructure, and improve access to the system for patrons with disabilities.

Washington – Wabash Loop El Station

This new CTA station serves the CTA Brown, Green, Orange, Pink and Purple lines. The expansive new station was designed to include elevators, stairs, and escalators and comply with all ADA standards.

Belmont Gateway

CCS did a Concept Estimate for a design competition for the Belmont Gateway project. The project involved a new 6,890 SF transit station on the CTA’s Blue Line at Belmont Avenue, and improvements to the bus turn-around area and pedestrian infrastructure. This project is part of the CTA’s $492 Million “Your New Blue” program.  CCS’ client was not selected to advance from the design competition.
