About The Project
CCS played a key role in the construction of a new two-story 76,000 SF annex and the renovation of the existing 119,518 SF GSA Jonas Courthouse in Charlotte. One of the few historic structures remaining in Charlotte’s Central Business District and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this project will improve security, provide for future growth, consolidate the court family, and positively impact downtown Charlotte. The addition of the Annex met the long-term space needs of the Courts, while also addressing security and circulation deficiencies that existed. In all, the Annex provided a total of ten courtrooms: three District, two Senior District, one District Special Proceedings, two Magistrate, and two Bankruptcy spaces. This project also provided space for the U.S. Circuit, District, and Magistrate Courts; U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Probation Office; Federal Public Defender, U.S. Attorney’s Office; and the GSA’s Public Buildings Service. The Annex also includes 83 indoor parking spaces. Renovations of the existing Courthouse included significant upgrades and/or replacement of major building systems including building envelope, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and life safety systems, and lead abatement. This project is being designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
