About The Project
CCS led the 308,270 SF modernization of the San Antonio Courthouse & Post Offices, located in the Alamo Plaza Historic District. The 6-story, Beaux Arts-style building was built in 1937 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Renovations included tenant alterations and major structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades. The project included a Howard Cook 16-panel fresco mural illustrating “San Antonio’s Importance in Texas History.” Historic light fixtures and interior marble details added a sense of grandeur for the post office and courthouse visitors and personnel alike. The project also involved the construction of a new bankruptcy courtroom, several training rooms for the AOUSC, and the consolidation and expansion of other existing tenant spaces. This project fell under GSA’s Design Excellence program and involved phased construction, with the building being occupied during the construction phase. This building has been honored as the only LEED Platinum-certified building among the 22,000+ buildings owned and managed by the GSA. Sustainable features include the development of a nuisance groundwater harvest system and a green roof.
