About The Project
The University of New Mexico hospital is a public teaching hospital located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, immediately north of the main campus of the University of New Mexico. The hospital is the only Level I trauma center in the state of New Mexico and also houses the only certified burn unit and designated stroke center in the state. The hospital is the main teaching facility for the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. CCS serves as a key advisor on its master plan. The program encompasses the multiphased, multi-year construction of a $400 million, 450,427-square-foot mission-critical medical facility, expansions and renovations to the existing facility, and a new 1,500-car parking structure.
Working with HDR and FBT Architects, we provided a rigorous cost and scope review of the new facility, which will include 406 patient care rooms with expansion capabilities to 600 rooms, a 188,850-square-foot medical office building, complete emergency medical services, imaging (MRIs, CT, PET/CT) and a pharmacy. The center will also include exam rooms, offices, conference rooms, and student and physician support spaces. The plans also call for a 16,000-square-foot central utility plant, central materials handling and distribution center, an IT data center, a rooftop heliport and a parking structure for 2,300 cars. Infrastructure components include a 4,500-square-foot tunnel and a 6,505-square-foot bridge. The new facility has a goal of a LEED Silver certification.
